“ Are you eligible to work in Spain? ”
Anyone with an EU (European Union) passport, a student visa for Spain or a Spanish work/residency permit is eligible to work in Spain.
Spanish Law does not allow English Academies to sponsor you for a work permit if you do not fulfil the above requirements.
Talking Point will assist those Teachers who are legally eligible to work in Spain to obtain the required legal documents. These include:
- Social Security - this is similar to National Insurance in the UK and provides health care services as well as unemployment benefit and a pension plan. Talking Point takes care of the monthly payments as well as tax reductions.
- Empadronamiento – this is a civil register where all residents of Madrid must be listed. This certificate of residency plus the Social Security number will enable you to register with a doctor.
- Nie – this is a Fiscal ID card for foreigners which by Spanish law must be carried on your person at all times. The whole process usually takes about 6-8 months so patience is essential.
- Spanish Bank Account - opening a bank account can be a complex and even impossible ordeal. Many banks do not permit foreigners without a Nie number to open an account which as we mentioned above can take a long time to process. Banks are very wary because there is a growing number of immigrants laundering money through foreign accounts and for this reason many banks refuse to open accounts for foreigners without an Nie number and fixed contract. However we can advise and assist you through this process as our reputation succeeds us in many of the large Banks in Madrid.
